STATE OF THE ARTS: Rubi Orozco Santos

Rubi Orozco Santos has been hard at work on a project centered on the practice of nixtamalization in the borderland. Nixtamal is the process of soaking corn kernels in an alkaline solution, which is used for making corn tortillas, tamales and several Latin American dishes.

She then used that research as the inspiration for a new book of poems called “Inventos Míos” which she will release on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Centennial Museum at UTEP. Here to tell us all about her adventures in poetry and nixtamal is Rubi Orozco Santos.
