A coalition of government agencies and nonprofits are encouraging El Pasoans to stay safe as hot and dry weather is expected to continue. In anticipation of the dangerous heat, the city of El Paso is opening cooling centers until Friday. Today, El Paso Electric responded to an approximate 1,000 power outages mostly in West El Paso as temperatures went up. The World Health Organization has confirmed the first fatal case of bird flu in Mexico.
