Shane McCrae is an American Poet growing up in Texas and in California. He is the first in his family to graduate from college, where he earned a BA from Linfield College, a Master's Degree at the University of Iowa, an MFA at the Iowa Writers Workshop, and a JD degree at Harvard Law School. McCrae would then be the author of several books including Blood (2013), The Animal To Big to Kill (2015), and The Gilded Auction Book (2019).
Shane McCrae was three years old when he was kidnapped by his grandparents who took him to suburban Texas. His mother was white and his father was black and his grandparents were white supremacists. His grandparents manipulated, controlled, and lied to Shane to make sure he didn’t know the full story, so he was raised to participate in his own disappearance. Eventually, Shane finds out the truth, so he travels on an adventure to reunite with his father and find his own place in the world.
