DAVID GREENE, HOST:

Good morning, I'm David Greene with a sound that just screams San Francisco.

(SOUNDBITE OF TROLLEY BELL)

GREENE: Oh, yes, the trolley bell. Cable car operators have elevated that to an art form, which the city by the bay celebrates with an annual bell ringing contest. Fifty-three-year-old Leonard Oates won the competition taking home a cash prize, a trophy and some Ghirardelli chocolates for this diddy.
