Jack White Brings Garage Rock Sunshine To 'The Muppets'

Jack White stopped by the season finale of The Muppets this week, injecting some of his raw blues rock into the show. After joining Kermit the Frog earlier in the episode for a riotous, car-karaoke sing-along of The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl," White takes the stage in the show's show-within-the show, Up Late with Miss Piggy, to deliver a strange-yet-satisfying cover of Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine of My Life." Recorded with the Muppets' house band, The Electric Mayhem, White blends his signature, raw garage rock sound with Stevie's simmering, piano-driven soul. White sticks to the bright, embracing cheeriness of the original in the choruses, but quickly does a 180 into darker territory on his simple, sharp solo. The performance also features the Muppets cast joining in on the final chorus, for a raucous, joyous close to the season.

The song is also receiving a proper release from Third Man Records. The two different version—the Electric Mayhem version and the full cast version—will be released as a physical, 7-inch single and as digital singles. The digital singles are currently available online while the physical single will be released on April 29.
