100 @ 100: Stephen Stafford

  The research of Stephen Stafford, professor in the UTEP Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.  Stafford is working with former NASA astronaut in CASSMAR (Center for the Advancement of Space Safety and Mission Assurance Research) in studying the wreckage of the Space Shuttle Columbia.  He is studying how materials exposed to extreme temperatures behave upon reentry into Earth's atmosphere.
