Ask Me (Bob Boilen) Anything

Caller, you're on air ... uh, the Internet.
Morgan McCloy

I'll be online at reddit.com/r/music on Wednesday, February 11, 1 to 2 p.m. EST, answering your questions on this post. I'm a little scared because you can actually ask me anything. It will be kind of like a Tiny Desk Concert (intimate, awkward) but I'm sure we'll have fun.

In case you need a little background information about me:

Musicians play at my desk.

I go out to watch live concerts almost every night. I saw 662 sets last year.

I created a music show called All Songs Considered

I was in the first band to play the 9:30 Club, a concert space in Washington, D.C.

I am making an album this month.

I play in a band called Danger Painters.

I directed NPR's All Things Considered for 18 years.

(I picked out those little bits of music between news stories on All Things Considered.)

I just watched thousands of YouTube videos to help decide on a winner for the Tiny Desk Concert Contest (we announce the winner on Feb. 12).

I like music.

In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. His persistence paid off, and within a few weeks he was hired, on a temporary basis, to work for All Things Considered. Less than a year later, Boilen was directing the show and continued to do so for the next 18 years.
