Songs We Love: Farao, 'Hunter'

Farao
Ella Schultz

Farao is the music of Kari Jahnsen, a Norwegian musician, singer and songwriter. This song, "Hunter," seems to reflect the serene environment of the small village she's from, Ulnes, in a Nordic mountain valley with a population of five hundred. The song is an enchanting mix of her ethereal voice and the sparkle of electronics. What I love about this is she avoids what I think of as the trap of electronic music production — repetition. It's so easy to copy and paste, but Farao's songs are not that. They unfold at every turn in unpredictable ways. Her debut album, should arrive in the not-too-distant future. I can't wait to hear more.

In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. His persistence paid off, and within a few weeks he was hired, on a temporary basis, to work for All Things Considered. Less than a year later, Boilen was directing the show and continued to do so for the next 18 years.
