Mayor of Sunland Park says plan for new border crossing moving forward

SUNLAND PARK — Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea says Mexico’s federal government has issued a federal registry number for the border crossing – a required first step in the funding process. Perea says an application has been submitted and the plan is to visit Washington to push for the permit and funding from the federal government in the United States He has presented the plan to the state of New Mexico to gain support.

Perea says having another port of entry in the region will reduce wait times at existing international bridges and also spur local economic development in Sunland Park. KTEP's Angela Kocherga interviewed the mayor about the city's effort to get a border crossing.
