The gunman who carried out the August 3, 2019 mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart killing 23 people has been transferred to the custody of the state of Texas to begin serving 23 life sentences. Now 26, Patrick Crusius pleaded guilty Monday to capital murder and 22 counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He then listened listened to victim impact statements from relatives of those gunned down and survivors of the attack. KTEP’s Aaron Montes talks to Angela Kocherga about covering the sentencing hearing and recounts the powerful moment when two women hugged the gunman who killed their loved ones.
