EL PASO, Texas (KTEP) - Muralist Citlali Delgado's artwork portrays the people, neighborhoods and imagery of the border to explore representation in her first solo-show at the Mexican American Cultural Center.
Her artwork is both posted along the walls of the cultural center's second-floor show room and hangs from the ceiling. Delgado invites viewers to interact with a large visual purple and green piece that is cut into strips in the middle of the room.
"Keep in mind what representation means to you," Delgado said. "When thinking about yourself, or thinking about where we live, what region we're from and things you see in the media that doesn't really represent you...all these paintings, I want them to be representations that we can be anyone we want."
Delgado's exhibit will be on display at the cultural center until February 15. Visitors can view her work during the cultural center's operating hours.
Soon, Delgado will take her art on the road to Austin, Tennessee and Iowa for various art residencies. The Mexic-Arte Museum, Art Farm Iowa and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts have accepted Delgado for their programs this year, she said.
Delgado said she hopes the experience will help her further develop her artwork and perspective.
