Magoffin Home Brain Trust Brown Bag Lunch: The History of Shakespeare, NM & Mining Camp #1
Wednesday, November 19 at 12 p.m. in the Magoffin Home Hall
The Magoffin Home presents another lunchtime lecture on the third Wednesday of the month, this time featuring Keith Wilden, who will present the fascinating story of Shakespeare, NM.
This exceptionally named town had its start as a silver mining camp, which developed into a bustling town that hosted notables such as Billy the Kid and Rattlesnake Sam, and even saw a famous duel at the Butterfield Stagecoach Station.
Despite this notoriety, the town faded after the mine closed and Shakespeare, NM, now stands as one of the Southwest's many “ghost towns.” Join Keith Wilden on November 19, 2025, as he explores the history of the town and those who preserved it, such as the notable Janaloo Hill Hough.
As always, bring lunch or a snack for the lecture, which begins at noon and concludes with a Q&A session. This lecture will take place in the hall of the Magoffin Home at 1120 Magoffin Avenue.
