Magoffin Home Cooking Class: Hoppin' John
Magoffin Home Cooking Class: Hoppin' John
Join us as we savor history through foods in El Paso! Using historic recipes, site staff will explore the contributions of different communities that helped build the modern city of El Paso. This month’s recipe explores the contributions of the Black community as we prepare Hoppin’ John. This dish, that combines black-eyed peas with various vegetables and spices, is a tradition in many southern households as it is believed to bring good luck in the New Year!
The cost is $10 per person and must be paid in advance. Please call (915) 533-5147 to register in advance as space is limited.
This event is part of a greater celebration of Our America, Our Texas, Our El Paso, an America250 food history series presented by the Magoffin Home State Historic Site.
