The International Museum of Art is proud to announce their newest pop-up gallery, Portrait of a Woman: Artist and Artisan. This gallery highlights the lives of other early women artists of El Paso like Jan Herring, Grace Knox Smith, Anna Johnell Crimen and Dorothy Geyer.

This pop-up asks us to reflect on creativity in our own lives by examining women’s artistic output from the late 1800s through the mid 1900s and international examples from Sue Koenig’s Window to the World. The gallery also highlights the biographies of El Paso’s early women artists by exploring how major social changes empowered these women to embark on professional art careers.

IMoA Director, Emily Leedom, states that “there is such a rich legacy of women artists in the greater El Paso region, and it is an honor to share their stories with our community. I think we can all relate to the artistic journeys that these women embarked on.”

In addition to Portrait of a Woman,The IMoA also invites you to visit A Tale of Two Artists, hosted in partnership with the Magoffin Home. This gallery celebrates the legacy of two early El Paso women, Octavia “Tia” Magoffin Glasgow and Leola Warnock Freeman. On view in our Historic Home, it explores the lives of these two women, as artists and as life-long friends.

Please join the International Museum of Art and the Magoffin Home in celebrating the legacy of two early El Paso women, Octavia “Tia” Magoffin Glasgow and Leola Warnock Freeman in A Tale of Two Artists. Visit the International Museum of Art beginning Saturday, December 6, 2025 to view this new exhibit that explores the lives of these two women, as artists and as life-long friends.

All are welcome to the Opening Reception on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 2 pm - 4 pm to view the exhibit and participate in an activity led by the Magoffin Home. Magoffin Home Exhibit Curator Machelle Wood shared, "This exhibit is my own examination of the paths to becoming an artist that were available to women in the early to mid-19th century. After reading Leola Freeman's biography, I was struck by her envy of Octavia "Tia" Magoffin Glasgow's financially supported path of studying painting in Europe and her degree in education. Yet, Leola ended up being more recognized and lucrative. I hope it makes all artists question the path they have been told to take rather than the one that they want to take."

The International Museum of Art is proud to present Desert Dreamscapes by local artist Vanessa Zavala Clark. It is an imaginative exploration of the flora and fauna of our surrounding, wild, and vibrant Chihuahuan desert landscapes featuring rich ceramic sculpture, pottery, and paintings. Desert Dreamscapes will be on view from February 28 through March 21, 2026.

Desert Dreamscapes is inspired by desert plants and wildlife, touched by a sense of whimsy and surrealism. It tells a story of belonging in the desert and finding one’s home, drawing inspiration from Western and Mexican culture, such as colorful alebrije patterns. Reflecting on her work, Zavala Clark says “this collection is a creative and playful view of the desert, uplifting those who may view our arid wilderness as barren and uninspiring. I hope to encourage people to explore outdoors, enjoy our trails, and view the abundant natural beauty that inspires me to create.”

All are welcome to the Grand Opening Reception on Saturday, February 28 from 2:00- 4:00 pm. There will also be a Desert Art & Marker Market and Family Day on Saturday, March 14 from 12:00 -5:00 pm. The Jazz Eexchange welcomes new adult instrumental and vocal students of all levels and abilities, from beginners to professionals. Program offerings include skill – based electives designed to give you a deep dive into the creative world of composition, the thrill of improvisation

When you gaze upon a blank canvas, where does your imagination take you?

The International Museum of Art is proud to open a Call to Artists for Upon A Blank Canvas. This community showcase will celebrate the many types of paint media and their endless applications in art; it is an exploration of the possibilities of paint.

Artists of all ages and experience level are welcome to submit up to two (2) works done in a paint medium that they believe best captures their creativity, artistic merit and vision. Submitted works may be on any subject/theme and in any style, but must emphasize the chosen paint medium. The goal is to highlight both the traditional techniques of painting and look towards innovations in its future.

The entry fee is $30.00 and directly supports the IMoA’s mission of making art accessible to all by helping cover the costs of organizing this gallery. Upon A Blank Canvas will open on Saturday, June 13, 2026 and all are welcome to the opening reception from 2:00- 4:00 pm that day. The gallery will be on view through Friday, July 3, 2026. Selected works will be for sale in the gallery; proceeds will benefit the artist and the Museum. We can not wait to see what our community will create!

Step into history with Brushstrokes from the Frontlines, an extraordinary exhibit featuring the gripping artistry of Tom Lea, the first Accredited Artist Correspondent for Life Magazine during World War II.

From 1941 to 1945, Lea traveled over 100,000 miles across four theaters of war, capturing the intense and personal experiences of U.S. and Allied troops with breathtaking depictions.

Don't miss the chance to see the story of WWII through the eyes of one of history's most talented artists.
