Businessman Renard Johnson will become El Paso’s first black mayor in January. Johnson defeated city representative Brian Kennedy on Saturday night in a runoff election for the mayor’s office. Cynthia Boyar Trejo defeated District 4 incumbent Joe Molinar. Tomorrow the City Council will vote on renewing an agreement with Emergence Health Network to maintain the police department’s Crisis Intervention Team. A girl under 13 years old is the first to die of a flu related illness this season, according to the city’s Public Health Department.
