The El Paso City Council voted to deny El Paso Electric’s proposed $93 million dollar rate increase. A coalition of up to 30 city departments, nonprofits, healthcare and social service organizations have teamed up to provide support to a growing population of unhoused and unsheltered people. El Paso’s state lawmakers also worked to get additional funding for the first comprehensive cancer center in West Texas. Civil liberties groups plan to challenge a Texas law Governor Greg Abbott just signed that would require the display of the Ten Commandments in all public-school classrooms.
