At the direction of the El Paso City Council, the city manager and attorney will draw up plans to oppose new Immigration Customs and Enforcement facilities from being built within city limits. El Pasoans have attended public meetings in large groups to voice their opposition to any proposed increase of ICE detention centers in the region over the last two weeks. Members of the City Council agreed to have the city manager and city attorney research a moratorium on granting permits, licenses and zoning to the federal agency.
