'NYPD Blue,' 'Deadwood' Producer David Milch
Milch co-created NYPD Blue, for which he won two Emmys. He is the creator, executive producer and head writer of the current HBO series Deadwood, a Western drama set in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Milch left a teaching job at Yale University to go to Hollywood and work on the show Hill Street Blues. This interview was originally broadcast on March 25, 2004.

CCH Pounder Steps Out From Behind 'The Shield'
The Shield begins its fourth season tomorrow. The FX TV cop show, one of the most popular dramas on cable, is the story of an inner-city Los Angeles police precinct where some of the cops aren't above breaking the rules. NPR's Ed Gordon is joined by Emmy-nominated actress CCH Pounder, who plays Detective Claudette Wyms in the series.
Slate's Middlebrow: 'NYPD Blue' Bids Over and Out
After a 12-season run, the last episode of ABC's dramatic series NYPD Blue airs Tuesday. Slate contributor Bryan Curtis says that the show broke ground in terms of sexual content on network TV, but eventually lost out to cable shows that could be even more explicit.

Actor Gene Wilder: 'Kiss Me Like a Stranger'
Gene Wilder made his film debut as a kidnap victim in the 1967 Bonnie and Clyde. He is known for his work with Mel Brooks, in addition to the classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wilder has written a new memoir, Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art.
