A Recess Coach For Kids?
Depending on who you were as a kid, you have very different memories of the playground. For some, it was a place to have fun and roam free. For other it was a place to get bullied. Several schools across the country are now addressing bullying and other behavioral problems that might pop up on the playground by hiring recess coaches — people who give guidance and keep things calm on the playground. While some parents and teachers are relieved that someone is finally bringing order to the jungle gym, others say it's not natural: kids should figure out how to play with each other. Host Michel Martin speaks to Jill Vialet; she is the president and founder of playworks, a non-profit organization that provides recess coaches. Also joining Michel is Lenore Skenazy founder of the blog and book "Free Range Kids"; and Washington, D.C.-based journalist Jamila Bey.
