For cine-files the term “Film Noir” evokes myriad images of dark alleyways, city streets and tough characters but for the casual movie goer, “film noir” may remain as murky as the films’ french term it describes. In this edition of On Film, host Charles Horak welcomes guest Alan K. Rode, one the leading experts on the genre. He is also an author, film historian, actor and producer and will recommend some must see films from the mysterious genre.
A cinematic Renaissance man, Alan K. Rode has written acclaimed biographies of legendary director Michael Curtiz and tough guy actor Charles McGraw while creating essays and profiles for a variety of cinema based publications. He is a charter director of the Film Noir Foundation and the producer-host of the annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival in Palm Springs, California. He has programmed and hosted classic cinema events across the country while providing commentary tracks for DVD/blu-ray vintage film releases.
