Rayell Abad Guagorena & Lepes

As the desert spring begins to bloom and the afternoon sun lingers just a bit longer over the Franklins, a renewed sense of creative energy flows through our border community. It’s a time when the boundaries between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez feel less like a line and more like a shared stage for the stories that define us. In this edition of On Film, guest host Carlos Corral welcomes to the KTEP Studios writer and director of Lepes, Rayell Abad Guagorena. He is a filmmaker and storyteller whose work captures the love and heart of our bi-national community, and he’s here to talk about a milestone moment—bringing his film back to the community where his journey began.

In the world of independent film, we often talk about the "next generation"—the voices that will carry the torch of storytelling into an increasingly complex future. But as technology advances at a breakneck pace, that future looks very different from what it did even five years ago. We find ourselves at a crossroads, asking whether to embrace the algorithm or fear the displacement of the human heart in the cinematic craft. Join our conversation to learn more.
