Haydee Alonso

Haydee Alonso

Haydee Alonso is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on contemporary jewelry and handheld objects. She uses a variety of mixed media such as metal, photography and Jesmonite to create a body of work that speaks about diverse border experiences.

Through her practice, she intends to shift the focus of the border narrative that currently highlights the negative aspects of our community - violence, war, drugs - toward a more inclusive story that explores the fluidity, interconnectivity, and duality that exists in the region.

She’s the force behind AYAYAY! Jewelry, a commercial contemporary jewelry house which specializes in hand made jewelry made and designed in Ciudad Juarez. She and her partner also run San Luis Contemporanio, a cultural space in Cd Juarez.

Alonso is also a full time faculty member in the Chicano Studies department at UTEP.
