Cleo Arevalo is a multimedia conceptual artist who produces videos, prints, ready-made objects, and installations that examine the globalized oppression of the masses.
In her show Graspable which opens on Thursday August 29, 2024 at La Mecha Contemporary, Arevalo displays work that analyzes the information that makes up a person’s identity as perceived by consumer and governmental institutions. In this exhibition, information is seen as the currency of our time that ranks our place in the world.
The works on view provoke a contemplation of how the value of the self is attributed by our contributions to society, and questions how the relationship between ownership and the perception of personal information influences someone’s identity.
