KTEP Public Radio Music Day Playlist Vol. 2

The music on this playlist is made up of music from various genres that come from the borderland region which includes the cities of El Paso and Las Cruces. Each band is local and original, some are newer and some are older, but they have each found their own sound and have continued to advance music in the city. We must continue to support our local music scene and bands to help them reach their goals and to continue to help our own community grow.

Chief DannyBoy ~ California Ain’t My Home ~ Live At EP Culture Beat’s Studio

  • Chief Danny Boy, "California Ain't My Home"
Here we have a 22 year old musician named Chief Danny Boy who is based out of Horizon City. He’s been getting his name around the region as he has an upcoming gig scheduled in Odessa, Texas. This western song features whistling that could get anyone to whistle along with the tune, the voice isn’t a typical voice for a western and it stands out because of it.
BoOsty- Faceless

  • BoOsty, "Faceless"
BoOsty is a local El Paso DJ who finds joy in producing darker beats and refers to his shows as conjurings. The beat heard in this song keeps up his unique style of EDM. He has been known to break musical barriers by typically opting to perform on the same bill as metal and rock bands throughout the city.
One Star Day - Glow (Ryan's Song) - Music Video

  • One Star Day, "Glow"
One Star Day is a lot newer, and was recently featured on Fitfam on Instagram, a page that showcases interesting things around El Paso. Why was this band featured there while others weren’t? The drum solo in the beginning and the beat that carries the song is performed by an 8 year old. This act originally started out as a father/son project but they got a bit of help from their friends to help create this song.
Solano Grip - Throu the Process (Official Music Video)

  • Solano Grip, "Thou The Process"
El Paso’s hip-hop and rap scene is often overlooked, but artists such as Solano Grip certainly keeps the scene alive and is a breath of fresh air to the scene. He’s a bit newer to the scene, but he has already opened for major acts such as Scarface.
hello

  • Ronin, "Hello"
Ronin is brand new to El Paso’s music scene but they already have created songs that help them stand above the rest. The beat, the lyrics, and vocal delivery help elevate this song to a new height. The musical elements are heavily inspired by the likes of Nujabes, but they managed to take that style and make it their own.
Mammals (For a While)

  • Plasma Center Princess, "Mammals (For a While)"
Plasma Center Princess has been in the scene for a few years now, but recently came back from an unexpected hiatus. This track is one of the songs they worked on while they were away, the song is full of solos and licks that keep the listener intrigued. Aside from the instruments, the verse is just as catchy as the chorus which is bound to stick with the listener.
Crow Man

  • Ojo Malo, "Crow Man"
You may actually know Ojo Malo since they used to go by the name Brother Strange up until recently. This song “Crow Man” utilizes a slow heavy riff which plays out under the thick clean vocals to create this sludge metal piece. Ojo Malo may just be the most well known sludge metal band in El Paso.
Anthony Pina is part of the on-air talent, production crew, and also acts as an interview host. He has been in charge of recording and producing shows such as Good To Grow and the local musical showcase show "Exit Stage Left”; the latter which is co-hosted and co-produced with Daisy Morales.
