Race Against Human Trafficking

Race Against Human Trafficking

-Plant A Seed (PAS) is rallying the community for an event that truly matters. On May 18, 2025, PAS is hosting a powerful 5K/Walk the Race Against Human Trafficking. Here’s why you should be part of it...

Texas Statistics of Human Trafficking
Texas is ranked Second for most human trafficking cases in the US. In a nationwide survey of tips to their Hotline, from people reporting a potential problem or victims reaching out for help, 3,534 came from Texas. Most were females, and most were adults; however, the Hotline reports that 28% of them were minors crying out for help.

Human Trafficking is Closer Than We Think
Chong Kim is an El Paso resident with a movie inspired by her survivor story from human trafficking. Kim is teaming up witht Plant A Seed this May to help host the 2nd Annual Race Against Human Trafficking.

Virtual Runners Across the World
This year the Race Against Human Trafficking will add the option for participation across the globe with Virtual Participation as an option to support the global issue. Plant A Seed has partnered with global influencers and teams to join the cause.

“We encourage supporters across the US and beyond to join,” welcomes Gamillo, “Whether you join in person or on a treadmill, individually or as a team...we need to stand in solidarity against the Global issue of Human Trafficking,” Gamillo proclaimed.

More About Race Against Human Trafficking
Plant A Seed nonprofit was established to empower and uplift local Latinx and underserved communities in the El Paso and Border Plex regions.

In its second year, proceeds from the Race Against Human Trafficking continue to benefit Paso Del Norte Center for Hope whose mission is to protect victims of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. They also help lead anti-trafficking efforts within the region through outreach, education, and person-centered services.

“We believe that strong community partnerships can help bring awareness and one day bring an end to human trafficking,” says Wendy Gamillo, CEO of Plant A Seed nonprofit.

“It’s been amazing to see our community come together to raise awareness and run for something that really matters,” says Gamillo. “Last year we had over 350 people show up for the cause, and we’re expecting even more this year. It’s not just a race—it’s a movement.”
