News DirectorAngela Kocherga is the news director for KTEP public radio where she leads local news coverage and also reports award-winning stories with a specialty in border issues. She is a regular contributor to The Texas Newsroom public radio collaborative and NPR. Angela also serves as a guest host for Texas Standard, a daily statewide news magazine. She's dedicated her career to covering the southwest border and Mexico for public media, leading television stations and digital news organizations. She has reported extensively on migration, binational trade, health and border security. Her work has earned a national and several regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. She is a 2019 recipient of prestigious Maria Moors Cabot prize awarded by Columbia University for courageous reporting in Latin America. Angela also values her role teaching a new generation of multimedia journalists in the Borderzine news lab, a capstone class at the University of Texas at El Paso.
