Bobby and Lee Byrd  raised the profile of books about the border, Mexican-American culture and more. The husband and wife started Cinco Puntos press in their home in El Paso’s Five Points Neighborhood in 1985. Their small publishing company helped launch the careers of award-winning authors.

They’re considered trailblazers for their work publishing fronterizo literature and diverse books for children.  In June the Byrds announced they’re selling Cinco Puntos Press. The buyer is a family-owned New York publishing house that specializes in diverse children’s books. KTEP’s Angela Kocherga interviewed the Byrds about their big decision and life’s work.
