The Iron Brigade of the Army

For this edition of El Paso Prime Time, host Richard Dayoub welcomes Colonel Douglas "Doug" Baker, commander of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, and his team: Executive Officer Major Hampson and Operations Officer Major Mahood. They will be discussing the mission of the 2nd Armored Brigade and why the unit is recognized as the "iron brigade". They also speak about their recent assignment to Joint Task Force – Southern Border (JTF-SB) supporting Operation Ardent Vanguard, in which they provide support to the U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) mission to protect the American people and safeguard the nation’s borders. They also explain how the U.S. Army operates within a specific set of legal authorities to provide unique military capabilities as part of a whole-of-government effort to secure the southern border.

The 2nd Armored Brigade is one of several brigades deployed under JTF-SB to support USBP efforts in sealing the southern border from illegal crossings and criminal activity. In the El Paso Sector alone, the mission has identified 1,000 illegal crossings in the last 6 months, dramatically improving USBP’s ability to interdict illicit operations.
