Downtown Film Café Re-opens

aaronandgeorgesfilmcafe.com

A film cafe re-opens in Downtown El Paso serving food and drinks, and cinema is on the menu as well. Aaron's and George's Film Café had to close last year due to building issues and thankfully it has just re-opened serving Cinephiles with an electing menu including film screenings. In this edition of On Film, co-owner of Aaron's and George's Film Café, Douglas Winter joins host Charles Horak to give an update on the status of the Café.

When Douglas met his partner Rebecca Munoz, during the height of the pandemic, they bonded over a love of film and storytelling, and family recipes. Rebecca, a native El Pasoan, artist and arts and cultural administrator, suggested combining all of their interests into a place where they could share good food and films with the El Paso Community. Hence, Aaron & George’s Film Cafe was born. Together, they have built this business as a homage to their grandfathers, Aaron Schwartz and George Haims, both of whom had restaurants in El Paso, Texas, and New York City.

Charles Horak didn't sleep much as a child, preferring instead to watch movies on late night TV. Not much has changed since then, except that he now shares his life-long passion for movies with others. Horak's association with On Film began in the summer of 2002 when he was interviewed by the show's originator, Cynthia Haines. In the summer of 2005, Horak took over for Haines as host of the show.
Sam Cassiano is a native Californian who spent his formative years in the Bay Area. An army brat, his family toured Germany and Japan before settling in El Paso in 1973. Initially a Communications Major at UTEP, a radio internship at KPAS-FM 94, the PASS launched his broadcasting career. He can be heard as the morning news anchor on KTEP during NPR's Morning Edition, and Friday evenings at 10 pm as the host of Friday Night Blues.
