El Paso’s film community is expanding further than it ever has. Expansion cannot happen without bringing what makes the industry successful in other parts of the world and building and strengthening what we know makes storytelling in our city special.
Returning to On Film is writer, director, and producer Valeria Contreras. Valeria is an award-winning filmmaker based here in El Paso, but not before rolling her bones in places like New York, Chicago, and Atlanta. Valeria has been working on her short film “Oranges,” developed, produced, and post-produced here in El Paso.
“Oranges is a proof-of-concept short film based on the feature screenplay, developed through the El Paso Community Foundation’s Border Art Residency and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers Director Incubator Sponsored by Netflix… Oranges follows Contreras’ 2022 short Homesick about lovers separated by the U.S.-Mexico border during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. It screened at various festivals.” — Doug Pullen.
