Ryan Stowe and the backyard experiments

Department of Chemistry: Research News, Article: "Department welcomes Ryan Stowe, Assistant Professor"
/
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Ryan Stowe grew up in South Central Michigan fishing "things" out of the lakes and conducting experiments using microscopes that his father, a biology teacher, would bring home. He does acknowledge that his child experiments were not well-formulated but fun.

Dr. Stowe's work is based on helping the student as well as the educator. He discusses what the starting point or foundational principles should be for teaching organic chemistry. At Michigan State University, Dr. Stowe has worked on several projects related to teaching and learning in chemistry. Additionally, he has conducted several studies examining student use of knowledge in the context of organic chemistry coursework. Dr. Ryan Stowe earned his Ph.D. from the Scripps Research Institute under the guidance of Prof. William Roush.
