The US is the number one country in Sex Trafficking, and Texas is the second state with the most sex trafficking. With around 79,000 minors trafficked in Texas, according to research by the University of Austin, there is an urgent need to bring attention to the matter. For that reason, and to commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, UTEP Women’s and Gender Studies will be hosting the panel “Empowering Communities Against Sex Trafficking” to bring awareness to the situation joined by the Paso del Norte Center of Hope. Join host Louie Saenz as he welcomes UTEP Professor Ruth McDonald, and Paso del Norte’s Executive director, Nicole Schiff, and Case Manager, Alma Blanca Cobos, to talk about who can be a victim, how being on the border can influence sex trafficking, and more information on the panel.
The panel will take place Monday, April 1st at UTEP’s Union East building at 12:00 p.m.
