Heather Wilson Ph.D. laughs during an interview with student publications The Prospector and Minero Magazine in the Hoover House on Aug. 5., 2022.

On this episode of We Are UT El Paso, Dr. Keith Pannell brings in a very special guest, the President of the University of Texas at El Paso, Dr. Heather Wilson.

Dr. Wilson shares a look into the successful strategic plan the University developed and implemented with the mission of having a positive impact on the community. During the past two years, the University has focused on teaching research, service, and improving the student experience. UTEP has taken advantage of the unique strengths of our community and turned them into opportunities, such as updating curriculums by connecting with different entities within the community and investing in academic research on the neuroscience behind bilingualism.

The daughter of immigrants and the first person in her family to attend college, Dr. Wilson served as the 24th secretary of the United States Air Force from 2017 through 2019. Her career interests began early in her life as both her father and grandfather were pilots. Dr. Wilson graduated from the United States Air Forces Academy in 1982, earned a Doctorate in Philosophy, and was a Rhodes Scholarship recipient.

This program originally aired on August 28, 2022.
