Fighting Child Hunger with Free Summer Meals!

Logo: No Kid Hungry Texas / state.nokidhungry.org

KTEP’s Charlize Mercado talks with Stacie Sanchez Hare, the director of No Kid Hungry Texas, an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Texas.

As summer vacation begins, so does one of the hungriest times of the year for a lot of kids. School is one of the most consistent places where children can find meals throughout the year, ensuring reliable access to nutrition. However, when school is out for the summer, many of their meals disappear, putting an even bigger financial burden on families struggling with an already tight budget.

To solve this problem, school districts and community organizations, with the help of No Kid Hungry Texas, set out to provide free summer meals to kids at schools, parks, libraries, and pools across Texas. These free and healthy meals are available for children and teens under the age of eighteen and don’t require any registration, application, proof of income, or application status. Kids can simply show up and enjoy a meal.
