Morning Jazz with El Paso Jazz Girls

KTEP's Charlize Mercado welcomes to the KTEP studios Amanad Ekery, Founder and Director of El Paso Jazz Girls to talk about their annual Summer Camp at the Young Women's Leadership Academy and play music from last year's camp.

El Paso Jazz Girls is a non profit organization that provides cost-free education to female and gender expansive youth to learn about jazz and how to write your own music.

It’s July 6-10, open to all instruments and vocalists, and its free. They will learn how to write your own music, improvise, and experiment in a supportive environment.

Charlize Mercado manages website content and does On-Air work for KTEP, where she ensures that the broadcast has the proper levels and runs smoothly, so that listeners can make the most of their days.
Martin Leon is a producer at KTEP, editing and assembling radio shows for the station. He engineers and records interviews, as well as being a Board Operator for Texas Standard once a week. Current shows include Jazz Night in America, The Latin Alternative, Classical Guitar Alive, From the Top, and Pipedreams.
