It is the twelfth of Gilbert and Sullivan's fourteen operettas and one of the most popular. The Gondoliers tells the story of two Venetian brothers and their auspicious ascent to the throne of Barataria...and the royal capers, mistaken identities and romantic entanglements that ensue.
