Showcasing the artistry of over 25 potters, the exhibit spotlights the generous contribution of early Mata Ortiz ceramics and prints by Juan Quezada by Lysbeth Warren Anderson to the NMSU Permanent Art Collection.

In a bustling Mexican household, seven-year-old Sol is swept up in a whirlwind of preparations for the birthday party for her father, Tona, led by her mother, aunts and other relatives. As the day goes on, building to an event both anticipated and dreaded, Sol begins to understand the gravity of the celebration this year and watches as her family does the same. This poignant and emotionally expansive film from Lila Avilés (The Chambermaid) cements her skill at directing dynamic ensemble performances in her stunning sophomore effort.

Join us for an informative demonstration by Las Cruces mixed media artist Laurie Churchill. You will learn the basics of using a gel plate to make colorful, textured prints that can be incorporated into collages. See how water-based paints and a variety of substrates, together with stencils and texturing, result in gel plate printed papers that may be incorporated into beautiful, complex collages.

The Humanities Collaborative at EPCC-UTEP welcomes author Silvia Moreno-Garcia, author of the New York Times-bestselling novel "Mexican Gothic" on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the UTEP Undergraduate Learning Center, room 106, from 7 PM to 8 PM. Ms. Moreno-Garcia will discuss the intersections of the humanities in the horror in her writings and in literature. A book signing will be held after the event from 8 PM to 8:20 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
