On this week’s Good to Grow, hosts Denise, Jan, and John will talk about backyard pecan tree issues. The rain will bring aphids, especially black aphids. These insects will start little by little, affecting pecan trees from the base; then leaves will develop yellow dots and brown spots, and they will eventually begin to fall. You want to flip your leaves over to check for black aphids or any other aphids. They are fairly easy to kill with insecticides, but try to keep as many leaves on the tree as possible before it’s too late and affects your pecan harvest. The El Paso County Master Gardeners started in 1981 and has been growing with many volunteers and Master Gardeners ever since.
