Silent Beauty, Produced and Directed by Jasmín Mara López

Guest Host Angie Angie Reza Tures, Executive Director of Femme Frontera, welcomes Jasmín Mara López, filmmaker, and director of Silent Beauty, an autobiographical film about her family's history with child sexual abuse and a culture of silence.

In this striking documentary, Lopez bravely walks the audience through her experience of being sexually abused by her grandfather as a child. Upon deciding to tell the truth to her parents and confront her grandfather, she quickly discovers that this experience was not only hers but, unfortunately, shared by many. Moved by this terrible truth, Lopez has created a film about confronting painful truths and the peace that comes with healing.

This film was selected by Femme Frontera because of her willingness to challenge current border narratives, and breaking the silence to speak about a topic that isn't often spoken about in our culture.
