On this week’s episode of We ARE UT, Keith Pannell sits down with Dr. Laura O’Dell and her former student and current scientist, Sofia Beas, and they discuss the work that goes into being a scientist and how they managed to get into the scientific field. Dr. O’Dell and Dr. Beas recount what piqued their interest in science and their experiences working in Dr. O’Dell’s science lab.

Dr. Laura O’Dell is a professor in the Department of Psychology at UTEP and her laboratory combines neurochemical and molecular approaches with behavioral models to study drug abuse. Her research program is supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the American Diabetes Association. Sofia Beas is a former student of Dr. O’Dell, and worked in her laboratory while earning her Ph. D in Neuroscience.
