In this interview, KTEP's Charlize Mercado sits down with Rayven Laticia Armijo, a folklórico artist, researcher, and Visiting Assistant Professor from UTEP's Department of Theatre and Dance to discuss her special participation in the roundtable for Tradicion en Moviemiento: Folklorico and Other Dances. They will also discuss the meaning of Folklorico as an expression of identity and the importance of studying it from an academic perspective to foster respect and appreciation among different cultures.

Dive into the vibrant world of folklorico, a dance tradition that weaves together the rich tapestry of local cultures with the elegance of ballet. Despite its deep historical roots, folklorico has often been overlooked in academic circles. Organized by the Chicano Studies Program, African American Studies Program, and the Department of Theatre and Dance, Tradicion en Moviemiento: Folklorico and Other Dances begins with a thought-provoking roundtable discussion hosted by Dr. Selfa A. Chew-Melendez that unpacks the complexities of folklorico's history, and is followed by a dance performance that brings these traditions to life.

This event will take place Saturday, October 19th at 10:30 AM at the Centennial Museum.
The dance performance will begin at 12 PM at the Khalo Dance Studio.
