The International Museum of Art is proud to announce their newest pop-up gallery, Portrait of a Woman: Artist and Artisan. This gallery highlights the lives of other early women artists of El Paso like Jan Herring, Grace Knox Smith, Anna Johnell Crimen and Dorothy Geyer.
This pop-up asks us to reflect on creativity in our own lives by examining women’s artistic output from the late 1800s through the mid 1900s and international examples from Sue Koenig’s Window to the World. The gallery also highlights the biographies of El Paso’s early women artists by exploring how major social changes empowered these women to embark on professional art careers.
IMoA Director, Emily Leedom, states that “there is such a rich legacy of women artists in the greater El Paso region, and it is an honor to share their stories with our community. I think we can all relate to the artistic journeys that these women embarked on.”
In addition to Portrait of a Woman,The IMoA also invites you to visit A Tale of Two Artists, hosted in partnership with the Magoffin Home. This gallery celebrates the legacy of two early El Paso women, Octavia “Tia” Magoffin Glasgow and Leola Warnock Freeman. On view in our Historic Home, it explores the lives of these two women, as artists and as life-long friends.
The International Museum of Art is dedicated to making art accessible to all, offering free admission, exhibitions of local artists, and a rich collection of regional and international artifacts. Thanks to the generous support of our members and donors, we continue to foster cultural understanding and promote the visual arts in El Paso.

In her newest solo exhibition and sale, Repose, local artist and Trailside Impressionist Nina C. Walker invites you to find peacefulness and tranquility in her paintings.
Native to the Southwest, Nina C. Walker brings a progressive, modern style to Classical Impressionism. Walker applies the traditional philosophy and techniques of Impressionism to her work and re-imagines it for a modern audience, reflecting spirituality and looseness of style with realistic elements. Speaking about Repose, Walker strives to “evoke a feeling which touches the soul and connects our lives.” She hopes to find connection with her viewers, remarking that “to feel the connection is to find the freshness and sparkle of these transitions.”
All are welcome to celebrate at the Opening Reception on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 1-4 pm. Walker will be giving opening remarks at 2:30 pm. Repose will be on view from May 2 through May 23, 2026. We can’t wait to see everyone there!
The International Museum of Art is honored to showcase Walker and her talents to our community again. She has previously exhibited at the IMoA, sharing her work in annual shows like the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl and in her 2024 solo exhibition, Evolution. She is a respected teacher, mentor, and student of progressive Impressionism and her works are held in collections across the United States. Walker has won many awards for her work across the nation, including the Juror’s Choice Award at the 39th National Exhibit of Women Artists of the West in Denver, Colorado. In addition to actively showing and participating in the art community, Walker teaches oil painting classes to future up-and-coming artists in El Paso, Texas.
