Tom and Liz have a conversation with Faye Yuan as she talks about her story and documentary Miles To Go Before She Sleeps and tells her story of how the issue of animal mistreatment in her hometown of Shanghai, China opened her eyes with a goal of helping raise and spread awareness to help save and protect animals from being physically mistreated and abused. Her documentary presents an idealistic school teacher laying her life on the line to expose a nationwide dog theft ring that sends thousands of stolen pets to slaughterhouses.
Faye Yuan is a New York-based bilingual curator, producer, and editor. She made her first feature-length documentary about a maverick Chinese animal activist. In 2021, Yuan edited an award-winning film documenting the 100-year history of jazz in China and was a curator for the Queens Memory Project- a participatory program supported by Queens College and Queens Public Library while raising awareness and a sense of ownership in the production of shared historic records.
Originally aired on October 22, 2023.
