On this week’s Good to Grow, hosts Denise, Jan, and John will talk about the El Paso Master Gardener 1st place awardees for the Dogwood Association Awards: Veronica Macias for Outstanding Individual, and MG Blanche Herrera and EPCMGA President James Courtright for their G.R.O.W.S Workshops. They will also talk about their special grass selections and care for this summer.
Pro-Tip: We are in the heat of the summer now, but as gardeners, there is still a to-do list for properly caring for your lawns. The best grass for our desert region, according to John, is the Bermuda Grass. It is readily available, but you need to ensure you have a good irrigation system. Phosphorus and Potassium fertilizers will help new grass roots to settle in better.
You can still catch the tail-end of the Top Summer Superstars You Can Grow in the Heat presentation by Master Gardener Robin Scofield this Saturday, June 13, from 11:00AM to 12:30PM at the Westside Library Branch. And if you missed it, no worries! There will be more G.R.O.W.S. workshops on the second Saturday of the month for the next couple of months.
The El Paso County Master Gardeners started in 1981 and has been growing with many volunteers and Master Gardeners ever since. The love of gardening and search for knowledge are primary reasons people join the program to become trained and certified Master Gardeners. Texas Master Gardeners are united in name, but the program’s strength lies in its ability to meet the diverse needs of the communities it serves.
