Rudy Pina graduated from Bel Air High School in El Paso in 1970 and his adventurous spirit led him to join the AirForce. During his off time he took correspondence classes. He was stationed in New York, Greenland and ended his time in the US Air Force in Clovis, New Mexico. He then married his wife Julie and was able to focus on school because of the GI Bill. While at the University of Texas at El Paso he began an internship with a company that had a new technology to sterilize medical equipment.

Mr. Pina was awarded the Gold Nugget Award in 2023 as an exceptional graduate from the College of Science where he earned a B.S in Biological Science-Microbiology. Rudy was the president of Dynatec Scientific Labs, a Latino-owned medical device testing lab. Pina established the Rudy Pina Endowed Fund for Microbiology at UTEP and has been an advisory board member for the UTEP College of Science. He has worked with the Food and Drug Administration, the Texas Department of Health and other entities to ensure high safety standards for medical devices and hospital settings.

London, England’s Dr. Keith Pannell created Science Studio in 1987 and has hosted the show for more than thirty years. With a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pannell provides listeners with a unique insight on the sciences. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UTEP.
Paul Castro has worked in various facets of audio production; producing talk and music shows, managing a community radio station, developing websites and podcasts. As a multimedia producer he enjoys being able to tell stories with a community perspective. He oversees operations and content production for KTEP.
