Finding Creative Freedom In El Paso

Christian Saul Moldes
/

On this episode of On Film, Carlos talks with El Paso filmmaker Christian Moldes about his journey from childhood theater in El Paso to working in Los Angeles as an actor, editor, producer and writer and eventually finding his way back home.

Christian discusses his experiences working across the film and television industry, the challenges of breaking into filmmaking, and how returning to El Paso gave him a new sense of creative freedom. He also shares how the city’s growing filmmaking community has inspired his work and encouraged him to create locally.

Christian’s short film "Soft Cargo", a love letter to El Paso and the immigrant and migrant communities that helped shape the region, premieres at this year’s El Paso Film Festival. He also talks about his experience developing projects through programs including the Sundance Labs and what he hopes to see from the Borderland’s film community in the years ahead.

It’s a conversation about filmmaking, coming home, creative independence and the importance of building a film community right here in El Paso.

This program originally aired on August 29, 2026.
