On this week’s episode of Science Studio, Dr. Keith Pannell sits down with Dr. Ahmed El-Gendy and Dr. Yun-Pil Shim to discuss the newly awarded Nobel Prize winners in physics (Dr. John Clarke, Dr. Michel H. Devoret, and Dr. Outreach John M. Martinis) and the groundbreaking research which won this year's Nobel Prize: Macroscopic Quantum Mechanical Tunnelling and Energy Quantisation.

Dr. Ahmed El-Gendy is a Physics associate professor at the University of Texas at El Paso. He has made significant contributions in the fields of magnetic nanostructured materials and their potential in permanent magnets, hybrid cars, data storage, magnetic refrigeration, magnetic hyperthermia therapy for innovative cancer treatment, and contrast agents for MRI technology.

Dr. Yun-Pil Shim is a Physics associate professor at the University of Texas at El Paso.

He has been studying possible qubit designs and efficient schemes for gate operations between qubits. His research areas include superconducting qubits, semiconductor quantum dot spin qubits, and quantum algorithms for applications in near-term noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices.
