  • There’s a last-minute flurry of candidates visiting El Paso as early voting wraps up for the March 3rd primary election. The Democratic frontrunner in the governor’s race Gina Hinojosa visited El Paso a few weeks ago.
  • The El Paso City Council took several steps to challenge rate increases from utilities today. The council voted to have the attorney’s office appeal a decision on Texas Gas’ proposed rate increase.

  • The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for West Texas including El Paso and Southern New Mexico. Gusts up to 55 miles-per-hour are expected to return today, as is blowing dust.
  • Forecasters with the National Weather Service say to expect winds to pick up Friday morning. The El Paso City Council postponed a vote on a proposal worth just over $584,000 dollars toward the design of a Downtown Deck Plaza over Interstate 10.
  • The El Paso County Commissioners Court renewed its disaster declaration, a formality needed to recover expenses made over jail space for Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star arrests. The county has spent an estimated $13.4 million dollars processing and jailing people under the border security initiative.
  • The El Paso Police Department reports that overall crime is down about 3 percent compared to the last fiscal year. Data provided by EPPD show a 30 percent drop in the amount of homicides recorded this year compared to 2023.
