This 2025 marks the 14th Anniversary of the Binational Breastfeeding Coalition (BBC) “Border Latch Celebration” where lactating individuals gather to give their children the best nutrition and offer peer support to each other. Joined by loved ones: family, friends and the community that show their support and commitment to normalize breastfeeding. This event is conducted in other places in the world in Celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.
In May 2025 Countries at the seventy-eighth World Health Assembly agreed on two resolutions to extend the comprehensive implementation plan on maternal, infant and child nutrition to 2030 and to regulate the digital marketing of breast-milk substitutes.
The resolutions are key to achieving optimal infant and young child feeding practices globally. The Code aims to protect breastfeeding by preventing harmful marketing and claims about breastmilk substitutes, including infant formulas and other food or drink intended for babies and young children.
The Code is also known as 'the International Code' and 'the WHO Code'. It comprises the original WHO/UNICEF International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes adopted in 1981. Unfortunately, here in the United States 20% of babies receive formula supplementation within the first 2 days of life. When the World Health Organization and the American Academy of Pediatric recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.
The Border Latch will take place on Saturday August 2, 2025, at The Jenna Welch & Laura Bush, El Paso Public Library at El Paso Community College located at 6701 S Desert Blvd, El Paso, TX 79932. The Event will be scheduled to begin at 9:00am and the countdown will be at 10:30am.
Through the years this event has helped the BBC created breastfeeding awareness by sharing the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) messages in 2025 the theme is” Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems’. This theme emphasizes the importance of investing in sustainable support systems to ensure breastfeeding is prioritized and supported throughout a mother's life. It also highlights the environmental benefits of breastfeeding and the need for a sustainable approach to formula production and waste. The theme is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aims to create a global movement that prioritizes breastfeeding for both health and environmental reasons.

Drawing from the NMSU Art Museum’s extensive collection of over 2,200 Mexican retablos, Trinities of Heaven and Earth explores the spiritual and cultural importance of these sacred images. Retablos, small devotional paintings traditionally displayed in Mexican homes, served as vital expressions of Catholic faith and values within the household. The imagery of the Holy Family conveys blessings related to family life, while depictions of the Holy Trinity invoke divine guidance. Together, these themes explore the connection between sacred devotion and earthly life, bridging the divine and the domestic.
The exhibition will open on March 21, 2025, at 5:30 pm in the Margie and Bobby Rankin Retablo Gallery, and will be open until March 7, 2026. The museum is open Tues-Sat from 10 AM - 4 PM.
